PPV advertising is a form of paid marketing through the use of AdWare. AdWare is software that is installed on a computer alongside other software. Spyware is NOT Adware. Adware is legal; spyware is not.

Many people know about "sponsored links" and advertising using search engines but may not be aware of AdWare advertising. AdWare's been around for a long time... in internet time. Learn how and when AdWare got started on our computers.

AdWare - When And How

About 15 to 20 years ago, when there were many ISPs providing internet access, users were given free internet if they agreed to view ads every so often.

AdWare analyzes your browsing habits and makes recommendations and highly targeted information to you. For example, let's say you are searching for "trucks". The AdWare sees this. Next it would show you relevant ads for "Ford" trucks or "Chevrolet" trucks and so on.

By showing the user relevant information, AdWare was supposed to be helpful to the internet user. Naturally, the internet evolved and our browing habits evolved. Thus, AdWare networks grew and presented another way to market products.

PPV Advertising Through AdWare

Today, your typical adware is installed when online games are installed. Some games such as the ones on Facebook and other online networks may have adware components to them. The adware most likely will be installed as a helpful "toolbar".

Adware is a legitimate and legal method of advertising and marketing using sofware and the internet.

PPV advertising is not quite as popular as PPC advertising.

Both PPC and PPV advertising are keyword targeted, PPV can also target URLs. PPC advertising can be costly but PPV may be significantly cheaper and still be highly relevant and targeted.

PPV Advertising Tips

PPV advertising is the same as PPC advertising. You start by bidding on a keyword and/or phrase. If a keyword is popular, the bid may be high.

An added advantage of PPV advertising is that you can bid on URLs. Here are some PPV advertising tips that I would suggest for your marketing campaigns.

Keyword research is crucial so make sure that you have some excellent keywords. Next, use the search engines and search for those keywords. We are interested in the URLs that come up for those specific keywords.

It is likely that there are many millions of URLs so selecting upto 20 of the resulting URLs will provide good results. Now, instead of bidding on the keywords, bid on the URLs.

It is likely that you can ensure that your bids will cost about 2-3 cents per view! This is a LOT cheaper than PPC advertising and probably is more targeted.

PPV Advertising Thoughts

PPV advertising occurs through pop-up an pop-under browser windows. For most internet users, this is an interruption to their regular browsing. As such, they may be annoyed by the interruption.

Ensure that the interruption through PPV advertising provides high value and information to your user. For PPV advertising, you will find that your CTR numbers are significantly lower than PPC numbers.

Ensuring that your PPV advertising provides valuable and congruent information will help you. If value is presented in your PPV advertising URL or keyword term, your target will be less likely to close the browser window..

Starting your paid marketing online with PPV advertising is a great start. As with all advertising, it rewards patience, keyword research and excellent copywriting skills.
